The 4-H Demonstration Contest will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Meigs County Extension Office.

4-H Demonstration Contest Rules and Registration Information

 

The 4-H Demonstration Contest will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Meigs County Extension Office.  The registration deadline for entries is Monday, July 12th.  Please call the Extension Office at 740-992-6696 to register.  Please complete the attached registration form. 

Age Divisions:       Classes are divided as:  Junior Individual (age 8-11 and in third grade), Intermediate Individual (age 12-13), Senior Individual (age 14 and up), Junior Team (age 8-11), and Intermediate Team (age 12-13).

 

Contest Rules and Specific Content for Demonstration or Illustrated Talk:   Members will be provided two easels, a microphone, a table, a movie screen, and an extension cord for use during their demonstration.  The presenter should use appropriate props and other visual aides to teach others about a subject or how to do something.  You may use charts, posters, and/or pictures to deliver your illustrated talk or to stress points you’re your demonstration. No large animals (over 20 pounds) may be used.  Demonstrations will be judged according to the following criteria:  introduction, closing, presentation organization, voice, visual clarity, topic, subject knowledge, manner and appearance, and questions.

 

Contest Rules and Specific Content for Multi-Media Presentation:  Members using computer generated or other audio visual equipment should bring their own equipment to the State Fair.  We will provide a laptop that operates on a Microsoft Windows based program.  It will include a recent edition of PowerPoint 2007. If you have other software programs, then you should bring your own laptop.  An LCD projector and screen will be provided.  Members may bring a CD or USB memory stick to use on our equipment and should have knowledge of how to install the memory stick.  Multi-Media Presentations will be judged according to the following criteria:  topic, technical quality, organization presentation, voice and sound, manner and appearance, questions and effectiveness.

 

Speaking Time Limits:       The demonstration should be between 6 to 12 minutes in length with four points deducted for times over 12 minutes or under 6 minutes. 

 

Appropriate Dress:       Appropriate dress is required for all 4-H individual and team participants, including shoes.
