Master Gardener Volunteers in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Master Gardener Volunteers made up of 125+ enthusiastic peole who share the love of gardneing and their horticulture knowledge with our community.
Montgomery County has 14 designated or "approved" locations to provide volunteer opportunities many of which are partners like Five River MetroParks, Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District, and The Other Place.
We look at Montgomery County as a whole and see where the need is for the other partners, and by doing, many of our volunteers don't have to go far from home, thereby serving their community. Sites are chosen with the purpose of providing horticulture education programs for the community, where it will greatly benefit OSU Extension in reaching our mission, but also for the partnering agency and who they serve.
Some of our sites serve low-income adults and children's programs, Veterans, mentally and physically challenged adults and children, and schools. We offer outreach programs on basic vegetable gardening to organizations which can provide garden space and a meeting place in which to hold classes.
What makes the OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program unique is the intense training offered to the volunteers and the expectation of using their acquired knowledge to benefit not only themselves, but all of Montgomery County. Once certified, each Master Gardener Volunteer has an opportunity to become part of the Greater Montgomery county Master Gardener Association, and to continue serving the community. If a Master Gardener Volunteer must move from Montgomery County, or the state of Ohio, they may transfer to the county which they move. Their training has proven they are considered a valuable folunteer so they may jump right in with serving their new community
